The Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research published in August 27, 2012, a research case study of a 19-year old young man suffering from long-term back pain, sleep problems and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). The study reported on the improvement of the man’s condition through regular chiropractic care.
The young man’s father had reported his son had been suffering from ADD his whole life. However, the young man’s main complaint was the pain in the lower and middle part of his brain, which he had been suffering from for five years. His case history revealed that he had trouble organizing and paying attention, which was affecting his daily activities, especially school, and work.
A chiropractic exam was performed which included postural analysis and spinal x-rays. Based on the examination results, it was found that the man had subluxation in the atlas vertebra, the uppermost part of the neck, which was impairing his neurological function.
Additional tests were performed to measure visual responses, brain activity (spontaneous and evoked), physical functioning, and sleep. The add-on assessments were performed before chiropractic care was initiated and after care began to effectively measure the patient’s response to his chiropractic care objectively.
The objective assessments showed the patient had an improvement in his ADD scores, focus and attention, sleep, and visual responses scores. The results were immediately apparent and the patient showed continuous improvement in subsequent tests.
The patient’s mother reported that he was doing better and that he was also behaving better. The case study noted that the young man had become more cooperative and was better able to follow through on tasks and complete them. These tasks include household chores, school work, and music-related activities. He had also begun taking classes in college.
The patient himself reported that the pain in his head, neck and back, which he was suffering for a long time, was also gone. He said he no longer felt clumsy and reported being able to play his musical instrument again.
