Imagine life without creativity. Life would be dull, bland, repetitive, routine and stale. But with creativity, the human mind is unleashed and has the ability to solve problems with new ideas.
Successful people -- like professional athletes, leaders, business people and doctors -- recognize the importance of creative thinking, and they tap into practices that enhance their ability to create and perform at their highest level. No matter what the profession, job or activity you are passionate about, the ability to think quickly and innovate is one of the characteristics that will allow you have success.
A study published in the June 2010 edition of the Chiropractic Journal of Australia showed that chiropractic adjustments positively affected creative thinking. This study measured creative abilities before and after receiving a chiropractic adjustment. The test had the research participant write down as many uses for a specific object as possible during a ten-minute period. An example would be to name all the different ways one could use a magazine, a table, or a hat.
Each participant performed this test at the start of the study. Then, each individual was assessed for subluxation in the spine, a condition that places pressure on the nerves which then interferes with nervous system functioning. Following the subluxation assessment, the subjects received a chiropractic adjustment to align the skeletal system so that ligaments, nerves, muscles, tendons and internal organs operate optimally.
After the adjustment, the subjects performed the test again to name as many uses as possible for a specific object. In follow-up interviews, six of the ten participants experienced a significant post-adjustment improvement in their test performance. Seven participants reported identifying new directions in a real-world creative task, and six claimed to have renewed energy towards a creative project they were working on. None of the subjects said they noticed less energy or creative thinking since the adjustment.
The results show that chiropractic does support creative thinking.
