Growing up I managed my migraines by taking medication whenever they began. I know now that was not really management but a desperate attempt to get some relief from pain. Since then, I have found that the best way to manage migraines is by preventing them in the first place. Some of the common migraine triggers that I found were:
- Emotional Stress
- A lack of sleep
- Changes in weather
- Foods like caffeine, chocolate, MSG (in all it’s forms) and other artificial sweeteners.
Other triggers that people commonly report on are changes in hormones, medications, second hand smoke, bright lights and perfumes.
Being aware of these triggers and working to make sure I didn’t do things that started my migraines (like getting dehydrated) has turned out to be much more productive than waiting for symptoms to appear. Even with all my vigilance, I found Chiropractic became my ‘secret weapon’ to not only prevent my migraines, but to improve my health and well being naturally.
