How To Make Almond Milk and Avoid Harmful Chemical Additives

Are you always busy and in a hurry as most Americans are in today's environment? Most Americans spend 90% of their food budget on processed foods and those convenient processed foods may come at a very steep price to our health.

There are over 10,000 additives allowed in our foods that do not have to go through the customary regulatory process and are not tested concerning their negative effects when combined together. Some are added directly to our foods and some additives are in the packaging and seep into the food.  Research is now showing that when even small amounts of these additives combined together can have much more serious adverse effects on our health and many processed foods have hundreds of additives. Avoiding food additives is particularly important for children. If a child is exposed to chemicals during critical developmental times, before birth and after, it can affect their reproductive, neurological and immune systems. For example, additives such as propyl paraben, a food preservative found in muffins, tortillas, cakes and food dyes, is an endocrine disrupting chemical and can alter hormone signaling and gene expression.  The European Union removed this chemical from their safe list back in 2006 because of its potential health hazard. It is still a very common additive to found in nearly 50 name brand snack items and in cosmetic and personal care items.

The Environmental Working Group has a list of the 12 WORST chemicals to avoid including:  Propyl Paraben, Sodium Benzoate, Nitrites and Nitrates, Potassium Bromate, Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA), Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT), Propyl Gallate, Theobromine, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Artificial Colors, Diacetyl, Phosphates and Aluminum Additives.
