How to Relieve Knee Pain

In this video, watch as Dr. Keith Lavender tests a young gymnast that has been unable to compete because of knee pain and weakness.

Dr. Lavender, a certified practitioner, is using a sports therapy technique called Advanced Muscle Integration Technique to find what is causing the issues with this gymnast. Advanced Muscle Integration Technique or The AMIT Method, is a technique used to identify and treat muscles or muscle groups not functioning properly or what the brain and nervous system have shut down to avoid further damage.

In this case, the popliteus muscle has been identified to be aberrant or “shut down”. It runs diagonally across the back of the knee and is responsible for locking and unlocking the knees. Injuries are a common issue with runners, gymnast, basketball and volleyball players, or imbalances in the lower spine.  Muscles become aberrant when a muscle or tissue has been strained or overloaded.  The position and pressure sensors or proprioceptors within muscle tissues become inhibited causing the muscles to “give way” when loaded. This is a reactive response to protect and prevent additional damage much like the circuit breaker on your house that trips when over-loaded.  Aberrant or inhibited muscles will not respond to exercise, massage, electric muscle stimulation or other therapies.

Once identified, Advanced Muscle Integration Technique is used to restore the specific muscle or muscle division back to proper function and the muscles will then “hold” and can be strengthened. Chances of future injuries are reduced.
