Antibiotics or Acid Reflux Meds Given to Infants associated with increased risk for allergic diseases in childhood according to the American Medical Association.
In April 2, 2018 Journal of AMA Pediatrics, it is reported in one of the largest studies to be done, an association between acid –suppressing medications and antibiotics. When given to infants in the first 6 months of infancy, it was associated with increased risk for asthma and all major categories for allergic diseases in childhood especially food related allergies.
Asthma and childhood allergies have been on the rise the last few decades so studies have been done to try to determine the reason for this increase. The study was an observational study. The results were found to be consistent with prior studies and were said to have biological plausibility.
