Senior Exercises

Movement is LIFE and essential to good health! One of the early signs of ageing is limited range of motion. No matter what age you are, movement, stretching, exercise is critical to your health.

As we age, balance is one of the first things we notice to decline. Falls are one of the most common reasons for hip fractures and head injuries among seniors, often leading to fatal injuries. Prevention and optimal health is why exercise remains so important for everyone regardless of age. Exercise improves balance, coordination, and strength. Senior exercises are great for beginning or recovering individuals.

Regular chiropractic care is critical to reverse the effects of aging as the central nervous system communicates with and controls and coordinates ALL other systems of the body and is protected by the skull and the spine.  The largest source of balance and coordination input to the brain comes from the spinal joints. When the spinal joints do not move through their full range of motion, neurological input from the spine to the brain is altered creating body-wide stress. Many famous athletes travel with a chiropractor as part of their health team because they know exactly the impact to their balance, coordination and strength without regular spinal care. Their performance depends on it!

For older seniors or those that have fallen and might have a greater fear of falling again, do not let that stop you from regaining your balance and strength. Dr. Mercola has a helpful video demonstrating senior exercises that will assist anyone to begin an exercise routine and move forward to better health. It is also important to consider once mastering initial routines to do more strenuous activities such as high-intensity or interval training and strength training.
